My Dad had home-care for my Mom for a few years . It was really helpful . I also felt it was mentally stimulating for my Mom .Home-care made it possiable for Mom to stay in her own home for a lot longer . dbby db - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I really appreciate those thoughts . Thanks Barb and Alice . dbby db - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Is it possiable it is just the symptoms from HD , that is stunting his emotional personality . Maybe that is never going to change ; on the other hand the Zoloft might be doing some real good . I personally would be nervous to lower the Zoloft if it is agreeing with him . all my best. dbby db - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I am sorry about your Dad . My mom is 82 and although being very sick with pneumonia last summer , she fooled everyone and kept on living . My grandmother was 93 when she died , never knowing she had HD . All my best . db P.S. may I ask what country you are from ? dbby db - Huntington's Disease Support Center
My Mom has for along time made noises . Also she used to repeat " Oh my " or "oh dear " , over and over . dbby db - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I too am sorry for your loss . With my Mom ; I don't tell her sad things . I don't see how it helps her . So, I don't . But my sibling does tell her . I wish she didn't , but she does . dbby db - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Will you are doing well . Boy is that great . Yet I have to wonder is there a line where if the body is braking down from HD , would it not be possible to put a burden on it from overuse . Similar to exercising when you have a cold or the flu . What about pHD who are tired , no energy because of the body breaking down , would you not have to be extra careful to conserve that energy , not puttingby db - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I think if I was in a similar situation . I would get a notebook and start putting my concerns on paper . Then writing out different solutions to your challenges . Keeping things simple , do less , for a couple of months . See if that helps . See if your husband thinks it helps . And try not to get mad if he saids no this is not helping . If he saids making your life simple , does help . Then thaby db - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Carla , you gave this alot of thought . You made a decision based on love as well as need . Try not to secound guess that decision . When your mind wonders to " we should be able to keep Tim out of a nursing home" stop that thought . Replace any negative thought over this decision , with a positive thought . Lavonne thank you I did not realize that about the absorbing . We found Mom did better with her multi-B pill. And I take a shot every 6 weeks and a multi-B by mouth daily . I notice a big difference when I take this vitamin . My spirit seems calmer . dbby db - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I don't know if it is part of HD or not . But many older persons and also those on protein pump inhibitors can be low in B12 as well as Vit.c ; and Vit.D . Actually all the the B vitamins can be a little lower for the same groups of people . Many people feel a lot better after their B12 is back up . And your not doing anything wrong . The body sometimes does not assimilate our nutrients as well aby db - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Val you did well . Keep up your good works . May I suggest , keep your visits simple , don't feel like you have to entertain the person you are visiting . But having an interesting picture or small story too tell , will help you if there are long silent pauses . Do your best and be glad your the type of person who did and does want to visit . all my best . dbby db - Huntington's Disease Support Center
You and your friends have good hearts . One of the top things any of us can do to help someone is visit . Even if they are non responsive . It still helps them . If they can respond , that's even better . But , did you know , one of the best ways a person can get the best of care in any of these care facilities , is showing that there are people interested in that person . I think my Mom's cag is 39 . I don't know for sure , because when they told us I think we were dazed by this info . we thought mom had a stroke and that was the cause of many of her problems . But it ended up HD . It blew us away . In a very old post , I had mentioned that I had said to the geneticists ," mom can have anything but HD , that's in my Dads family history" .
