Thank you very much for the much needed information. He thinks he doesn't need any "special" housing...major denial. We do have a COE here, but the social worker hasn't referred to any housing as of yet. She's frustrated too....I don't quite know how to handle him, but I won't let myself get evicted. I have been here 7 years and landlord really likes me and my rental history, buby Janigirl - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I know Liz........maybe there is another site with more caretakers than patients who might be able to provide more information and help. Any suggestions? Thanks, Janigirlby Janigirl - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Hi everyone, I'm feeling totally sad and frustrated today. My son lives with me and along with being HD positive, he has substance abuse problems. He also has irrational anger and makes things up. We rent our duplex, and yesterday my neighbor called and said he's tired of hearing yelling, cursing, beating on doors and walls all night. I don't blame him, but what do I do with my son?? Has anyone tried supplements of Lion's Mane Mushroom?? My daughter tried it and it has an extremely calming effect on her. We told her Psych Dr. at the COE today, and he says he will be looking into, it. It you want to research it, please refer to the link above, and let me know if you've heard of it or tried it yourselves. Thanks! Janetby Janigirl - Huntington's Disease Support Center

No, I do know about confusion, it's more like it comes on suddenly then disappears...anyway, I believe it's attributed to coming off of benzo's, etc. which he has done..I talked with a psychiatrist and they will be giving him different meds. It was such a sudden difference from his normal behavior. Thanks for responding.by Janigirl - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Barb is 100% correct. You should take sick leave, then apply for disability. Why would you risk losing it all even if you think you can do things at work now?? They will cut you off because they can, and then what would you do? You don't know their game plan. Please listen to her, I have also had experience in this and know for a fact that once things start going downhill at work (in any cby Janigirl - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Lorrie, None of us "know" what we will get in this life..........many have genetic markers for heart disease, diabetes, alzheimers, cyctic fibrosis, etc. When my HD daughter became pregnant 4 years ago with her 4th (we didn't know she was Phd at the time) she wanted to abort because she was so overwhelmed with her 3 very active boys. Her husband was completely against an abortion,by Janigirl - Huntington's Disease Support Center

I get the brunt of my 38 year old son's anger from HD, and I'm his Mom!! I am also confused by the selective nature of who they direct the anger towards............maybe someone should do a study on this to find out why.....it's bewildering!by Janigirl - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Dear DeeAnn, You just wrote the story of my ex husband and son, who were (ex has died) and are both positive HD. My 38 year old son lives with me now, but in the past, a few girlfriends of his would say how violent he became while drinking, and even argumentative when sober, but not as bad. My son is a great guy and is trying hard to stop drinking,as now it has affected his liver really bad,by Janigirl - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I am dealing with the SAME things from my 38 year old son. His Dad had HD and died at 53. My son has been a miserable person to live with for the past 8 years. Always drunk, and of course, really abusive verbally. It is exhausting, to say the least. He's been through at least 5 medical detoxes and then straightened out for a while long enough to let the meds help him. Then the cycle returnby Janigirl - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Hi, My son has HD and is really been having a problem with congestion lately. He has no other symptoms of having a flu or cold, and yet still says he has this "flu".....and always wants the humidifier on. Does anyone else have or seen symptoms like this, and if so, what to do about it? Thanksby Janigirl - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Hi, does anyone out there take care of adult pHD children? I feel so alone with no one to vent, except you guys..........I was just wondering if anyone else is in my position............help!by Janigirl - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Jackie, I feel so connected to your story. Mine is very similar. I had married a Dr. and we had three beautiful children. He got so bad during his thirties, he start drinking HEAVILY.....he mostly had behavior problems not movements. I had to divorce him and raise my kids alone..........it was tough because I didn't know at all about HD in his family. His Dad died in 1992 and he thought thby Janigirl - Huntington's Disease Support Center
