So sorry to that you are here (that is having a loved one that is at risk). changes in personality could be from HD. the age of onset can vary greatly in families as my wifes sister was acting very strange in her 20's with minor chorea. My wife went off the deep end in her late 40's with hardly no chorea noticable. I was pretty sure the wifes personality change was HD and beared wby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I am attempting to write a letter. I wish I was as eloquent and methodical in my writings as you Howard. Lacking the formal experience and now in a state of exhaustion it is hard for me to write a decent response. Case in point I have given up trying to communicate with the home health agency I used as it appears to be nothing but yelling who is the blame and it seems like it was all my faultby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
It has been a year or so since the wife has been this anger. it has really cause her movements to increase and unbearable to help today. Is there any way it could be negligance on thier part for abrutply trying to change CNA. This franchise advertises that their personel are specially trained to deal with dimentia and other physcoligical disorders (GEMS). I was paying the company out of savings (since I have quit work to care for wife) so it should be cheaper per hour, BUT... the office called me today to inform me IF the CNA has ANY contact with us in the next year they will sue! the contract I signed appears to say that if I pursade her to take work directly or through a different company they would sue for a minimun of $5000. there are sevby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
While no where as bad as Howard's nor Bothfeets experance, I have just been blindsided by our service. Just less than a year ago, I was in dire need of some help (the wife had fallen and the head trama made her symptoms much worse). I was afraid that the wife would be even more upset with someone in the house, but she and the CNA got a long good. After the months the wife and the CNA have becoby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
the one, sort of off the wall, first symptom I noticed with my SIL, BIL and Wife was the inability to maintain a constain speed when driving.by JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
thank you so much Betty I read one article where seroquel helps with early movement, then read another that says it does not, only haldal and risodone (sp). I will continue the slow increase in dosage and hopes it helps please keep me informed about the next drugby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Thank you for your concern and looking for information to provide well being for this young woman. please consider that her "profound learning/intellectual disability" may be due to the progression of HD and her loss of ability to express her thoughts and dificulty in orginising what you are asking. My BIL and SIL were extremely smart individuals, but they were threated as drug adiby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center

sorry to here of your sons episode with seroquil. I hope it is something else as my wife just started, but at 12mg at bedtime. she has been on a SSRI for severl years and still takes.by JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
It seems as all we can do as caregivers is HOPE. I had to google to see what the type of meds you were trying as my wife maybe needs something similair. I have put more time in reading, then reading drug information from what I hope is the latest and most comprehesive and get more confussed instead of seeing a positive approach. Sorry for the above rant, I really hope your husband impby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
my Wife went through a stage similair, where I was trying to kill her and every body was in cohoots with me to get her put away. Her family history was well established and She was aware of the HD progression. So I was asure it was HD when the symptoms occurred. Her rage was so severe I was planning to have her committed. After several hysterical visits to several Drs and being unsuccessby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I wish you good luck with the Abilify. From what I have been reading recently, I would think it will have good results for you. I really hope so since I want a simliar drug to help the Wife, so please update Are you also taking a SSRIby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I had sort of the opposite problem with the Wife, she got upset that she can not brush and floss like she use to. she switch to a cheap spinning bristle brush for a while and I used those floss with a holder things while she laid in bed (for several years). recently, We had to switch dentist, but I was able to find one that will just "brush" her teeth every couple weeks using a blocby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I am thinking the wife needs to add a 2nd genration antiphysocotic for movements, I have been googling only $800/month for Abilify versus $30/month for Risperidone or genric Seroquel. But all are cheap compared to TBZ Now to find a Dr the wife will go toby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
My memory of the wife's extreme manic stage is now like a blurred bad dream. I too recall trying different meds with no effects or making things worse. I hate to even mention this, but I seem to recall the most peace I got was after a manic episode where she was screaming and frailing to the point I feared a stroke was iminante. they usually lasted several hours, but she was so exhuasted tby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I'll give my experanice. after bad effects trying multiple "mood" medications, Lexapro worked wonders for my wife and still does after 5 years. She never stayed on Tetrabenazine since at the time it was prescribed she was morbidly depressed and violent rages.by JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I feel as if every thing I have, including my life, if just "rusting" away as I take care of my wife. I use the word rusting because all of my hobbies/projects (this includes two sports cars) are either in storage or stacked under a shelter to make room for the wifes ever increase pile of things that she must have. I have quit even responding to "aurguements" there isby JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
The wife and I took care of her younger sister and now I am taking care of my wife. Her sister was symptomatic in her 20's, where my wife was in her 50"s before sypmtoms became noticable. I am not familair with PET scan. However, during recent trips to the ER, they used different techniques with the wife. To set a broken wrist, the ER physician used something that knocked her out for about 15 minutes. during another visit, To get a MRI (or maybe CAT scan) of her head, they called in anesthesiologist to keep her out, but only for about 30 minutes.by JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Thanks for the Link. I will pass it along. As I listen, I think I would have also though of HD from the beginning. I even wonder after the diagnois, does Dr Benjamin G realize how common those actions and symptoms are. I wonder if the lack of knowledge of Vince's Father's condition was actual or just denial (unawareness).by JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Was that in response to the recent request to write "chapters"? I have not heard back from my email. I was going to put something down for that to get points towards coupon, but the download would not work on my computer.by JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I now stay with the Wife full time. I know it will be great if you can find some work you can do from home. Being able to continue with my profession from home is not an option. Unfortuanely the Wife is at a stage where she wants me to be with her and gets upset if I try to stay abreast of whats going on in my industry via the computer or the phone.by JFB - Huntington's Disease Support Center
