JL - Here's the real record of your war hero Kerry. Source: Swiftvets and POWs for Truth website. "John Kerry's service in Vietnam lasted 4 months and 12 days, beginning in November 1968 when he reported to Cam Ranh Bay for a month of training. His abbreviated combat tour ended shortly after he requested a transfer out of Vietnam on March 17, 1969, citing Navy instruction 1300.39 permittby Will - Huntington's Disease Support Center
John Kerry was and is a liar and a traitor. The book "Unfit For Command" that had a large part in keeping him from being elected was dismissed as a Republican smear job. It wasn't. It was carefully researched and documented fact. I proudly displayed a Vietnam Veterans against Kerry bumper sticker during the campaign. We were overwhelmingly against him as a group. Kevin asked about Choline. I picked that up from Bob-NETEX who is an occasional poster to the Lighthouse board. He's about my age (60) with the same CAG count (40) and is pretty much symptom free. He's been taking it for some years. The research I did showed that it was safe and acts as sort of a "lubricant" for neurotransmitters. I could not agree more with Marsha about the voting public and emotional issues. They're started by politicians and fueled by the mainstream media and fringe interest groups on both sides. Term limits for all elected offices would be a good start. Babies and politicians have something in common besides the kissing. They need to be changed regularly for the same reason. By coincidence, I have a friend from SC who is a civil war reenactor and was one of the pallbearers for the burial of the remains from the Hunley. Elizabeth, I'm so glad my story helped someone else. The PREDICT-HD study that I'm in is technically an observational study, not a clinical trial. There's no treatment involved. I'm not a medical professional, but my gut tells me that RNA Interference (RNAi), or gene silencing, has the best chance for producing a cure for all of us. No ink blots, but several problem solving ones and memory tests for words and numbers. There's also a long series of psychological evaluation forms that get filled out by both the person and the spouse. It's a long day. Willby Will - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Fred, I'm in the PREDICT study. They use the UHDRS tests, a brain MRI every other year and a battery of motor and cognitive tests. I think some were designed especially for the study. Most are done on a computer. There's also an extensive scratch and sniff test to identify different smells. That's to determine if loss of sense of smell is an accurate indicator of progression. Elizabeth, I'm not aware of any research or guidelines on dose by body size. I'm 5'9", 130 lbs, significantly smaller than your BF. I don't know if brains are sized in proportion to body size. If so, it would make sense to take more, since that's where the stuff has to go. If that's true, your BF is 110% of my size. One caution on using Brownwood Acres concentrate. If you use their pump, it's two squirts to get a tablespoon. I thought it was one, so I was underdosing myself for a while until I stumbled on it. I made another mistake recently with their concentrate. I use both their blueberry and pomegranate stuff in the same glass of water. We recently had our wills and powers of attorney reworked. North Carolina does have a springing power of attorney, but my wife and I chose not to include that provision. Our durable general powers of attorney were effective when signed. I also named an alternate to my wife, effective immediately. That would take care of a situation like both of us being incapacitated in the same auto accident.by Will - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Elizabeth, I thought about those issues when I began my supplements. I had taken creatine before HD with no side effects at a 5 gram dose, so I started there for a week or two and then jumped into a 10 gram dose, I didn't know what, if any, reaction I would have with fish oil caps, so I took 3 weeks to work up to the full dose. Elizabeth, The PREDICT study runs for four years for everyone. I'll be doing my 4th visit this August. I've been on that supplement regimen for about 3 years. I believe the recommended daily dose of EPA is 2,000 mg. I use MegaTwin capsules from Twinlab. 3 of those (one with each meal) gives me 1,800mg. I'm on the small side so I figure that's enough. Elizabeth, I'm in the PREDICT-HD study which is trying to identify small markers that might indicate disease progression in asymptomatic folks. L-Leak, You asked if the blueberry concentrate was more beneficial than the extract. Not sure what you mean by that. If you meant creatine, I think they're both beneficial. The big reason HD folks are taking blueberries in any form is for the anthocyanins. Those substances cross the blood/brain barrier and help build new brain cells. The antioxidants are a side benefit. l-leak,take a look at the supplements I'm taking that have helped keep me symptom free at almost age 60 (CAG 40). There's no reason not to start taking creatine. DB - I think ventilated means being kept alive for any period of time by mechanical ventilation after brain death. The MGH COE wants the brain delivered within 72 hours of death. Their package contains instructions to move the body to a cold room - 4 degrees C if I recall - immediately after death.
