We went & spoke with a social worker first. She was really helpful, they dont force you to make a decision to test or not to test.Maybe you talking to someone whby Julie 03 - Huntington's Disease Support Center

My husbands father who is hd positive has a cag of 31/44.My husbands results came back as 30/31.So in this case the expansion didnt happen, but the cag of 30 came from his mothers side with no known family history of hd.by Julie 03 - Huntington's Disease Support Center

The intermediate range is 27-35.People within this range will not develop hd,but the gene could expand. If you go to the top of the page & click on hd light house & follow the link to cag counts it explains all.by Julie 03 - Huntington's Disease Support Center
He went through the testing in August this year.My husbands results were negative although he is in the intermediate range with a cag of 30/31.Very unusual they told us.30 from his mum & 31 from his dad(cag 44) Your husband & mine think the same, nothing worries them yet we seem to worry about everything & anythink. Where abouts in Australia are you?by Julie 03 - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Hi Kay, I know how you are feeling,I have been in your situation not so long ago.My husbands father has hd and just like you I was more afraid of wanting to know more than him.We have a 3 year old & I to was watching for every sign possible of hd from both of them. Our decision to go through the testing was the hardest decision we have made but my husband wanted to know to plan ahead for thby Julie 03 - Huntington's Disease Support Center

luvv I would have to agree with Debbie. my husband went through testing & its the longest wait of your life but as Debbie metioned it sounds like you have an idea of what your result is. During that time I was on this website, which helped me & my husband out a great deal, everyone is wonderful Try talking to your mum & letting her know you want to be independant on your own.by Julie 03 - Huntington's Disease Support Center

I am also new here & after searching for everything I could on the internet about hd,this was the only site that I to learnt alot from & have also been able to talk to alot of wonderful people. I would also say keep it the way it. ITS GREAT. Julieby Julie 03 - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Im in Australia so over here they need to wait until they are 18 years old & they will not test unless there is a family member with hd & we have to show the genetics report to proof it.by Julie 03 - Huntington's Disease Support Center
appleseed, You could be right.hd could of been on both sides of his family somewhere down the track. I would be curious to know what my daughters CAG is for future study of hd,but she is only 3 years old so we have many years to wait for her to make that decision.by Julie 03 - Huntington's Disease Support Center
My husbands CAG is 30/31. As the dr told him this is an unusual number to have both of them in this range. The 30 from his mother & the 31 from his hd father(CAG 44) So who knows maybe in his family the CAG has expanded through generations. We did ask the dr is it necessary for our daughter to test when she is old enough or she wishes to,mainly for concern of the CAG expanding, theby Julie 03 - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Hi Michelle, I live in Sydney. My husband has just been through the testing, his results were negative. His father has hd but lives in Adelaide & in the last stages. When he was going through the testing we were told only 1500 people in NSW have hd times that by 5 & that is how many people are at risk. Even though my husbands results were negative,hd is still in our familyby Julie 03 - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Hi Aussie Gen, I am also from Australia & my husband has just been through the testing process & like you it also took him months to get appointments.Like you he wanted to know either way for future planning. His 2nd marriage he had 2 children both have tested negative. His 3rd marriage he has 2 children, they have not tested. My husband was at risk for hd when we had our first child, but back then we only new of the word, nothing about it,till a few years ago we really looked into hd. We never even thought of having another child till he felt he was ready to test, which took many years for him to decide. Lucky for us he tested negative, but if his results did come back positive we would not have had another baby.by Julie 03 - Huntington's Disease Support Center
