Hi- We are dealing with a similar situation with my MOM. She took a fall last month and has been in a rehad center (NH). We are giving her the choice of NH or Home Care. She says neither. Do you have Guardianship of her so you can make the choices or is she compliant? We are struggling. juliewby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Can anyone tell me about Hormone Replacement Therapy and HD. I once read that anything that can ward off aging may help ward off HD. As I head into menopause (I am 44) I was wondering if anyone would share their thoughts/experiences.by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
HI Sandy - welcome. Does your Mom show any signs of HD? If your grandfather and brother had/have HD, your Mom would have to have it too. (That would put the rest of you at risk assuming same parents as brother) However, It is possible that your brother had a spontaneous mutation and your grandfather's disease was something else. Anything on your father's side? Lots of support on thisby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Mom was evaluated today by a Psychiatrist who said she is incapable of making her own decisions. We are getting a letter to probate tomorrow (in Michigan) to get quick guardianship. Mom will not budge AT ALL. She has to stay in the hospital 3 days to get Medicare to cover a rehab stay (20-100 days). That will give us some time to think about what to do long-term. She told us that she will haby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Hi all- Our Mom is in the hospital after falling and cracking her head against a wall and injuring her back. We are concerned that she did not tell my sister during a phone conversation the next day. Later that day I could not reach her on the phone so stopped over - found her laying on the kitchen floor unable to move (and bloody on the head from the day before). At this time she admitted toby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Hi lovinglife: My sisters and I are in our 40's and are also at risk. My Mom started showing signs about 55 years old. She is now 66 and very symptomatic. It is a struggle to be at risk - always testing myself- but I still would rather live with the chance that I do not have it for now - If there were anything I could do different (ie. a known treatment) I would get tested. For now I am doinby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Congrats Teej!!! I am 44 and at risk. Were you symptom hunting for those 31 years? Did you feel you had any symptoms? I am not ready to test and sometimes feel I must have it when I lose my balance or can't think of a word. Good luck to your sister...hopefully the research will bring us something soon.by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
My Mom has had some luck on Memantine. For the first few weeks on it though she was very tired and kind of shook (parkinson-like). But now she is doing well on it.by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center

As an at-risker, I agree that it will be his decision alone to test or not. I have told my friends and family that telling me about any symptoms they see is not necessary or beneficial until I become a danger to myself or others as there is nothing I can do. It would cause me not to enjoy what I have left. I will not test until my children become of child-bearing age or when there is aby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
