Hi - I'm here everyday. At Risk. My Mom 67 yrs old with Cag 42. I will not be testing in the near future. My kids are 12 and 14, so maybe in 5-10 years. I am 45 and hope that I have no symptoms, although sometimes I feel off balance and sometimes can't come up with the right word in conversations (I hope it is menopause). Sorry about your Dad's results. I am a 45 year old Mom who is at risk. We found out 2 years ago about my Mom's HD CAG 42. She is 67 and doing OK - doesn't drive, bad gait, but in general retty happy. Never had heard of HD. I try to drink green tea (some say it's neuroprotective), take Creatine (although not daily), and sometimes Trehalose. It is never out of my mind, but I get along fine andby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
HI Rj- Was in your shoes 2 years ago with my Mom getting diagnosed. We had never heard of this disease. Life changes, but there is still joy and beauty in it.by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I don't know what happened last night but want to share my support of Marsha and Steve. You have both made a difference in my life! Thanks for always being there to help with technical questions that our Mom's neurologist can't answer! You are appreciated! Juliewby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Hi Erika- Remember that SSRIs can also be neuroprotective by increasing BDNF.by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center

My sister took my PHD Mom to her Neurologist today. She prescribed haladol. She is already on Memantine and seroquel. I remember postings to the effect of "beware of haladol". Please share your experiences. I asked my sister why Haladol and she could not really tell me. I should probably call the Doc myself. Any input?by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Hi - I am a 45 year old Mom who is at Risk. I stumble over words and sometimes can not think of he right words to use. I am always testing my balance walking heel to toe (sometimes good other times not). It is hard living wih the fear - but I am still not ready to be tested. How old are you and what is your family history?by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Have they given any consideration to a sperm bank? Very esy and no embryo gets left behind... just a thought, evertone is different.by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Hello friends- Can someone explain to me the odd start/stop walking that happens with hd? My Mom is getting increasingly difficult to take anywhere as she stops suddenly every couple of steps causing people to run into her. I do try to keep her away from crowds (leaving church early etc.). Also, will Medicare cover a wheelchair? (although she refuses to believe she will ever need one - I seeby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Hi, my Mom is a 67 year old pHD. Because she is already on SS retirement benefits does that mean that she is not elligible for SS disability benefits? I know she is not elligible for SSI (Supplemental Insurance) as she has a little money in a CD.by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Anyone ever heard of this? Is this a promising lead on a treatment?by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
It was very hard with my Mom also. We have just taken away her lighters and her credit cards (because she has in the past used the credit card to hire a cab to get lighters - she is very clever!). She wants to maintain some independence and she is in her own condo for now with someone coming in about 3 hours a day (at which time she is free to smoke). Hope things get better with your wife - itby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Sounds like something we may want to look into. I looked up price - $49.99/month.by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
My grandmother (CAG unknown) had onset close to 70 and died of a stroke at 84 (still walking and living alone, and going to senior dances! - but not driving). My mom is 66 and mid stage so her onset was younger (CAG 42). My aunt (Mom's sister) is 65 and seemingly early stage (she is untested but her son has a CAG 40 - so her CAG may be 40).by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Are there any thoughts about asymptomatic HD gene carriers taking Memantine to slow progression? It seems to be a leading candidate.by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
We have known about HD in our family (my Mom) for 2 years. At first I was very sure I did not want to tell my daughters (11 and 13). But after attending a support group that included a lot of at-riskers - they told me it was much easier "knowing" about it their whole life as opposed to having to be dealt a huge and upseting shock at some point. I was at first hiding the word Huntingtby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Actually, we are almost all the way down this path. I am asking for a different reason (comparative info). My 66 year old Mom, living alone, took a bad fall late last summer(gashed head, hurt back, 3 days in hospital, 6 wks. in rehab center), 200 cigarette burns on her floor etc., totally in denial about her deficits, is contesting our decision. We have full support of her Neurologist. Courtby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Hello all- I have a quick question regarding guardianship for a pHD. Have any of you gone through attaining guardianship for a pHD that was contested by the pHD? What did it cost for you to get a lawyer and go down this path? Thanks, Juliewby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Myrna - Much love to you and your family. Sorry to hear about Rikki's passing. juliewby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
My Mom's earliest symptom showed up about 10 years ago at age 55 (she is 66) We called it "Fally downy" disease. She would just "Tip" sometimes. Loose her balance. Never raged. Also, my husband (not at risk) has a shoulder jerk noticable to quite a few people when he drives. Juliewby juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
HI purplegal- My sister's and I are in a similar position. We are going for guardianship this week. Good luck to you.by juliew - Huntington's Disease Support Center
