A question for Marsha?

Hi

There has been a lot in the medical press over the last few days about the advantages that antioxidants could have for HD patients.

As Cystamine is an antioxidant can you update me on whereabouts in the trial program this drug is and whether you feel it should become available for HD sufferers sooner rather than later given this new evidence on antioxidants?

Thanks
Kathy

cystamine is not likely to go into clinical trials. An analogue, cysteamine will, however. Raptor Pharmaceuticals is planning a Phase II clinical trial. The timetable was to get started by the end of 2008 but there hasn't been any recruiting as yet.

Creatine and CoQ10 are also antioxidants and Phase III trials are now recruiting.

Here's a chart that I developed for the HDSA on drugs, supplements, and genetic interventions in the research pipeline.
