Looking for "real" home based employment

Posted by Geoff Hornbeck
I feel there is one vastly overlooked area of caregiving: home employment.

Nothing could be better for a Phd than a caregiver who is available at all times.

Since 1996, I have been looking for any type of home employment so that I could be at home with my Phd wife.

I have yet to find anything (other than out and out scams).

Luckily, I did find a job only minutes away from home. For my wife, I might as well be hours away.

There must be some legitimate home employment that I'm overlooking.

Are there any suggestions?
I think it's especially important to have family health care insurance coverage, if possible. That rules out much home based employment options. You pHD spouse may not be the only one needing health care. You need to consider your self, too.

There are some good articles in the recent Home Office Computing magazine on convincing an employer to allow you to telecommute.

I wonder if the stress of entrepreneural jobs is compatible with caring for a pHD. One can only take so much pressure!
