You have your daughters, and they need you as much as he did. Live for them, and make sure they are well taken care of. He wouldn't want you to be so down. It will always hurt, but it won't hurt as much as time goes on.by Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Maybe one thing has nothing to do with the other. I'm sure the HD isn't a good thing, but there could be more going on than that. Counceling is useless in almost all cases where one spouse is the only one pushing it. There are issues you both have. It could be that he is looking for someone else, not because of the HD, but because he's just reached some point where he's no longer interesby Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Yes, it could be. Have you noticed a change in his handwritting or his driving? Like a general decline in the handwritting, or more accidents? And yes, you should talk to his mother, if you are sure she won't react badly.by Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center
There is a significant number of HD patients that suffer all manner of psychotic episodes of all descriptions. It's more common in the literature than NOT having symptoms.by Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I wouldn't tell him anything like that. Can you say you are doing business? I mean, he only knows what you tell him, so maybe just don't show up? I wouldn't say a word if it were me and just not show up to the NH. See how that works.by Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I wouldn't believe they were being compassionate either. Medicade is welfare, and you have to be down to less than $2000 in assets in most cases. However if he has Medicare, they should pay some of that. Tell them to bill your dad, then don't pay it. They should have had the funding worked out pretty fast. To do medicade you have to go to the DHS and qualify for it, they usually start thatby Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center

I agree, don't let her babysit. These outbursts will become more common and severe. She will apologize, but it will not prevent them from happening again. It is of little use to try and discuss it.by Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center

You have to do what you have to do Audrey. Those eyebrows don't have to deal with this and they have no clue about this. You have a hard road cut out for you, and you are keeping up. I think the sleeping thing is normal. My wife did about the same thing, and she still does in her advanced stages. Hey, it's hard. You have to remember that his functions are not what they used to be. He probably can't keep up with the conversations like he used to, and he's getting to where he doesn't have the "executive function" to make small talk anymore. His mind is struggling just to keep up with internal workings of his body, and he's going through a "phase". I can understand yoby Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I don't know Judy, I always had a lot of trouble doing that. My wife tried to throw herself out of the car while we were driving last time I took her home, then fought them all the way in. It was like I was bringing her to a prison. So I didn't do it anymore. It really didn't help either of us. She wasn't going to come home to live anymore. It was just teasing her I guess. Along with Marsha is talking about, how light would signal a response as if it was heat, I noticed that my wife's perceptions were like that. I think that the brain is kinda "short circuiting"; it's triggering nerves for light with heat, sound for touch, etc. At least to some degree. My wife's response to pain was delayed, too. She fell and scratched her knee. She didn't havby Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center

I never had to answer any questions at all in any job I ever had, it was always a benefit. If you have to answer questions, so what? Has there ever been a diagnosis on either side that can be proved? Just answer no, whatever. Right now, I've been off work for two months this year. In January, I had my L4/L5 vertebrate in my back fused because it came loose and I could barely walk. My wife did one, and the results were very interesting. They did the square peg / round hole test, some vision tests, and answering verbal and written tests. The test found that she had "hemispherical neglect in the lower and right planes" meaning that she lost peripheral vision and could not see or comprehend objects below her or to her right. The results also measured her cogby Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Medicade pays for my wife's LTC. In my state, I can work and live and hold the house without worrying. But if I should die, all of our assets would go to the State.by Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center
A CAG of 31 is in the "gray" range anyway. Those Genetic tests are pretty accurate from what I've read. Don't people with HD in the low 30's have HD very very late in life? Like the 70's? I'd say that there has to be something else going on. I met a man with Young's disease a few years ago, and it was similar. It was terrible, and came out of nowhere. The doctors need to keep loby Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Sound like a good deal to me. I'm with Will. Health insurance is big regardless of HD. This year I've had about $140K worth of surgery done, and I worry about it as retirement looms in my future. There's a big gap between medicare and retirement, and it's not easy to fill it. I'd almost give up my job to do that (once I get the house paid off). Hd shouldn't drive this decision, think abby Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Judyf, Tell that to my state. Medicade varies state to state, and I had to pay. It wasn't much, but it was my responsibility. The worst part I ran into was that Blue Cross wouldn't pay, so the others wouldn't. After I removed her from BCBS, I didn't see any of the bills. Now, 3 years later, they (medical providers) still try to bill BCBS. But she gets all the care she needs with justby Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Every woman that I know that has had that surgery is all the better for it. I have had two major surgeries this year, I had a back fusion because my spine "slipped", and I had a bowel resection last week. The worst part isn't the drugs, its the inability to move. That's the bad part. With that surgery (and my sister had it) the recovery is about two weeks before you get to a pointby Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center
It's a hard call. I had my wife on Medicare, medicade, and my insurance. The way the thing shook out was my insurance was the Primary. I thought this would protect us from paying for services since there were 3 levels. What ended up happening was my insurance would refuse treatment that Medicare would approve. It was pretty bad actually. Each of the three would argue responsibility, and myby Fred - Huntington's Disease Support Center

I understand your anger. She knew and she didn't tell anybody. I don't think anyone here can condone that. But try and understand that holding such hate and resentment on someone else is like taking poison and waiting for that other person to die. It's not healthy. It's a sad thing when this happens, and since this issues present themselves in so many ways, there is no predicting the endgame at all. All you can do is make sure that you keep her and you as safe as you can and be aware that you can't leave her to her own devices or not do something when these obsessions present themselves. Liz, I guess you just have to judge what's best for your mom. If you think you can take care of her better than the NH, then by all means do that. There is more than one person you are taking care of right now, and only you can judge if you are doing the best for everybody involved.
