I'm not sure how long he was diagnosed before becoming bedridden. It seems like he was in mid mid 50's when he was diagnosed and he was 71 when he died. He participated in numerous trials also. Sherryby skaran - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I don't think my daughter has accepted the fact that she probably has HD. Years ago she had a problem with drugs and alcohol and she says her symptoms are probably from the damage done by that but she hasn't had that problem in years and her symptoms are definitely getting worse. It's hard to resist the temptation to hug her all the time. Focusing on the present is what we all should be. Therby skaran - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Thank you, Liz. We talk every day and I see her once a week or so. I'm trying to help her live a normal life as long as possible. Her husband is wonderful and I don't want to dwell on the future and ruin these good days (while they last) but I'm a "fixer" by nature so this is very hard for me to deal with.by skaran - Huntington's Disease Support Center
My first husband was diagnosed with HD and has passed after spending his last 8 years bedridden. Our 45 year old daughter is showing signs but refuses to be tested. She has erratic movement of her eyes, mouth and facial muscles. Lately we're seeing emotional outbursts. Does anyone know if there are trials in the Houston area? I don't know if she would participate. I'm just at a loss on howby skaran - Huntington's Disease Support Center
She's had a problem with alcohol for several years now, but I thought she had it under control until the last few months. I can only imagine how afraid she is and alcohol makes a good hiding place, I guess. We don't live in the same town so I don't see her every day and trying to talk to her over the phone is very awkward. I'm still trying to get her to be tested but no luck yet. How does alcohol affect the disease and/or the medications used in treatment? My daughter is hiding in alcohol. It's hard to tell which symptoms are from HD (she hasn't been tested yet) or from drinking.by skaran - Huntington's Disease Support Center
What affect does alcohol have on the disease and/or the drugs used for treatment? My daughter is using alcohol as a hiding place. She's been alcoholic for several years but had pretty good control until the HD symptoms became more evident.by skaran - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Thank you so much. Now if I can just convince her to do it.by skaran - Huntington's Disease Support Center
My ex-husband was diagnosed 10 years ago and has been bedridden for a year or more. My 40 year old daughter is showing signs but is in denial She says she will be tested before her children are ready to start families. I pointed out to her that pregnancies aren't always planned and she should be tested now. Her daughter is 18 and her son is 16.. My son has tested negative.
