I knew i had HD and went ahead and had a second child. Was pregnant with first daughter when we found out what my mom had. It was a hard decision to make but decided to have a second child hoping upon hope that by the time our children are old enough that there will be a cure or at least a treatment for HD. My nephew who is HD positive and his wife just gave birth to a perfectly healthy littleby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Hello, I to have movements in my hands and feet. But when my husband gives me a back rub or when the dog curls up around my legs the movements seem to stop. Not sure why this happens but maybe its' because I seem to be more relaxed when getting my back rubbed, can't explain the dog thing!! lol Teresaby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Hello. My nephew who is HD positive just welcomed the birth of a perfectly healthy baby boy!! They went through a lot of stuff to make sure that the baby did not carry the HD gene. They are the happiest i have ever seen them and the baby is beautiful, worth everything they had to go through. Hope this helps. Teresaby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I too have HD and am a smoker as was my mom. I have tried quitting before but not having much luck, I rememeber my mom burning a lot of clothing and furniture because of her wild movements. I do not wish to be the same way. There is a new drug that I talked about once before on here that is called Chantix. It supresses the need for nicotine and helps you to quit smoking. I am down to 5 cigarettby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Welcome fleur, I am glad I had the test for HD. It seemed like those results would never come back, but they did and I was positive. I wasn't suprised becuase for some reason I just had the feeling that i had it. Since knowing the results I have been able to following along on drug trials and get started on medicines of my own that hopefully will delay the start of the HD symptoms. I do find myself reaching for M&M's now instead of a cigarette but so far no weight gain, but am still smoking some, about 1/2 a pack a day down from a pack so still aways to go. Teresaby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Thanks for the info on memantine, it kind of sounds like the drug I am on Namenda, it is for Alz. patients also, but my Dr. put me on it a couple of years ago for memory, it seems to be helping. Teresaby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Marsha, I know what you mean I seem to be forgetting about smoking! It's only when I realize that it's been awhile that I get a little nervous and wind up having one. But I am smoking less and less each day. Teresaby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
The day before my mom died from aspiration pnumonia she seemed more calm and more alert than any other time. It worried me to, I wondered my God maybe she is getting better! But, that was not to be. She died peacefully the next day but not before sitting straight up in her bed which she shouldn't have been able to do, and looking over into the corner of her room and smiling, now there was nobodyby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Alice, Thanks for the message, I am on cymbalta for my depression which usually works great. So am going to give it a while to see if it goes away, then if not I will probably need a drug change which I hate. Teresaby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Jordan, I will get a hold of you when we move back to KC. It may not be soon but I will get back there! Teresaby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Alice, I hear the same thing from my husband everytime I bring up HD he says "you are fine". When I can tell from the small movements I have that I am not "fine". In my head I am a different person than I was say even 2 years or even 1 year ago, I can't put my finger on any one thing but yet it's there. So, know that your not alone in feeling the way you do I have the worriby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
For all that don't know me my name is Teresa, I am 51 years old and in the early stages of HD. I have been whining to myself alot lately and feeling pretty sorry for myself, I don't know if it is the progression of the disease or it's just me being me. I figured after all I have the right this ain't an easy disease! I know there are worse things to have than HD but right now that isn't helping. Bby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center

Is anyone out there taking chantix to stop smoking? I was just wondering if there is how long it took or is taking to take effect. I have been on it for almost 2 weeks now but am still smoking. Teresaby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center

I haven't said anything to my Dr. yet. I thought I could snap out of it, after all these years you'd think I'd know better! I didn't know that about the liver levels, I am having a physical in Sept. I will say something to my Dr. You see, we live in a very small town and I see 2 different Drs. One is at a Mental Health Center and she handles all my med's. I only see her about every 3-4 montby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
My brother does the same thing with the coughing/clearing of his throat, so I think that is typical of HD, and I am starting to notice it in myself now.I know all about the no ambition thing because I have none! But I think it's the depression setting in thats doing it to me. Teresaby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I'm sure there has been a lot of discussion about depression and the drugs to take. But, I was wondering if anyone is on cymbalta and if so for how long? I have been on it for a couple of years and it has worked great.... till now, I am starting to get depressed again and don't know if it's the drug or it's just me. I am on 60mg. a day I don't know if you can go higher on it or not. thanby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
I do not regret being tested 20 some years ago at the age of about 30. I just knew I had to be tested. I am sooo like my Mom that I was sure I had it. Knowing has it's drawbacks for sure, it makes you a little nutty, but for me I needed to know so that I could be up on all the latest research and get into any drug trials if possible. Which I was in one 6 years ago. I guess if it drives you craby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
Not sure why you are asking, but I have early stage HD. I quit working a couple of years ago because of panic attacks. My advice to you is to keep working as long as you can, I wish I had continued working through the panic attacks because all I do now is sit at home. Have thought about getting a job but it's too late now. Teresaby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
My family went through the same thing with my Mother. My Dad always said as long as she knew where she was she would stay at home, but thankfully the Dr. stepped in and made the decision for us. She had gotten hurt at home and it was time. I think you just know when that time is, if not then I think it is when they become a danger to themselves or others. Hope this helps a littleby tmlarkin - Huntington's Disease Support Center
