Besides the immense cost of tetrabenazine, I found my husband was more aggressive when he was on this med. Dr took him off this med and prescribed Risperidon instead. It calmed him down and reduced his chorea dramatically. He's been on the same dose of Risperidon for the last 2 years and it worked well until recently I noticed his movements are starting to increase again. When my husband went on long term disability, the LTD company required him to also file for SSDI. They, in turn, contract with a company called Allsup that helped him file for soc sec disability. It was no cost to him due to the LTD requirement that he file. Allsup took care of gathering the required documentation from his doctors and filing on his behalf. I had to call the police once when my husband got extremely agitated and started hitting me. He told the officers that I was stealing money from him and wouldn't let him go anywhere (His license was taken away as he was a high risk for accident). Luckily one of them had HD in his family and recognized the symptoms, so they called the paramedics instead of taking him to jail.
