Huntington's disease chat

Hi, all. I'm looking for information on Huntington's disease and I think I'm lucky even to find this site. There isn't that much info I can turn to out there. I have to share with you that during my search, I came across a site www.dna.com and they're having a live chat tonight with a medical doctor about Huntington's. I think this is a great opp for me to find out information and get to ask my own questions. I look forward to keeping in touch with this board and learning more.

Thanks for the "heads up" bubbles. It's really great that more and more special events are provided about Huntington's Disease. This means that HD awareness is increasing - and awareness is the first step toward increasing contributions toward research which will lead to an eventual cure for HD.

I am looking for some advice. I think my mum may have huntingtons disease. Her father died from it and her brother has it. My mum is 49 yrs old and she has lost all her self confidence, forgetful, fidgety can't sit still, lost weight and can be depressed. She had contacted a doctor in our local hospital who specialised in HD and I think she was going to get tested but never went through with it. That was about a year ago. I don't want to worry her because I always told her she was being paranoid. Can u suggest anything? My aunt spoke to me last week and also thought what I was thinking.

What about encouraging your mother to talk to her doctor and see if she needs to be treated for depression? She may or may not have HD but she certainly sounds like she is clinically depressed. It also sounds as if she is not ready to know about her gene status. Had she gone ahead with the testing and tested positive, her doctor would probably be treating her for depression anyway. This way, she will hopefully feel better and may be better prepared for a clinical diagnosis if this should happen in the future.
