creatine study still enrolling

Hi everyone.

Rusty and I attended our local support group last evening (in Pittsburgh, first Thursday of each month if interested.) We were excited to hear from Dr Ferrante, who just relocated to our area, and is extremely active in HD research. He had many promising things to report from the early phases of the Creatine trial. This study is using higher dose of a purified form of creatine for HD patients as a mechanism to aid energy production at the cellular level. The study currently has about 200 people with HD enrolled, and needs to get to 600 or 700 before proceeding.

The tough thing with HD studies, he said is the relatively small population with HD. The CoQ10 trials are still running, and those people enrolled in that study are not eligible to enroll in another study until that one completes. This reduces the number of eligible people with HD even further.

If you are at all inclined to participate in a study, especially if you are in early stages, for your health and the health of generations to come, I encourage you to contact your HD specialist to see if a trial is going on near you.

Thanks, and take care.
Patty

Thanks for posting this. Dr. Ferrante has done some very solid work with creatine and mice and I am glad to see the clinical trials with people, something I have been advocating for since 2005!

Thanks, Marsha. He was a great speaker and obviously very passionate about HD research. I hope the study is able to fill and get started soon.
