Red Hair and HD

Humans have 23 chromosomes. On chromosome 4 there are many interesting transcripts. Transcript 15 (IT-15) is the huntingtin gene (HD). Just before IT-15 is the gene for red hair. Just after IT-15 is the gene for Huntington's disease like disease type 2 (HDLD2). Unlike HD or HDLD2, red hair can skip generations.

Genetic Testing

There is a simple genetic test for HD but the issues raised are complex. In this new age there are increasing ways of fighting HD. Interventions such as the HDL triad are effective in slowing and even reversing HD. The earlier interventions are started the more effective the fight. Much of what you can do to fight HD leads to a healthy lifestyle. You may not need to be tested to start this lifestyle. Testing may give you the motivation to be proactive in dealing with HD.
